NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Club Meeting February 4, 2010 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, before league. The club secretary was not present to take notes. According to President Mike Noelle: The T-shirt design was approved by the general membership. Mark is getting some pricing and samples. Otherwise we talked about the upcoming shoots and set up for the 3-D. The members decided to go with USA Steak Buffet to cater the banquet again.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Board of Directors Meeting January 14, 2010 The Norfolk Archery Club Board of Directors met Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, after league. Many members were not present on Thursday, Jan. 7, because of a snowstorm, however, it will count as the first night of league because most sent in makeup scores, and everyone had that option, just like any other league night if they couldn’t be there. The Nebraska Bowhunters banquet will be held March 6 in Kearney, and they are asking for donations. Marv suggested passes for our club shoots. The passes we have given out previously tend to bring more people to our shoots. We will send 4 season passes to club shoots for a full year (including next January and February), and send hats and T-shirts with each. Jay has a line on another display case. It is large, lockable and lit. We’ll have Jay take a look and measure it, and then line up a pickup; we’ll have to be able to get it in here. He also mentioned he has some large prescription bottles if anyone has a use for it. We have a tournament next weekend (Jan. 23-24), and need cardboard backing cut. Mike asked about awards; Brian is working on it. Participation awards were also discussed. Randy will put up a sign-up sheet Thursday for volunteers for running the tournament. Randy said he has some heaters he could bring for during the tournament. Mike submitted a request to Wild Turkey Federation for $3500 and got $2500 for more youth equipment. He’ll get a couple bows, arm guards, tabs, arrow, and maybe use some to buy curtains or mats. Mats are 4’ round -- where will they be stored? Also, we’ll need to build brackets. It was suggested we contact an FFA group or welding class (NCC) to do it as a project. The stands can be stored outside, but we could put up another shed. We could build something on the side of the trailer, put pallets down and use mothballs to keep mice out. Jeff Hansen asked if we’re going to get more Spyderwebs for targets 1-4. We don’t need to; it’s working great now. We will have to watch the pumps to make sure there’s no flooding next week -- rain and melting snow is predicted so it may get wet down here. At the next club meeting, we’ll need to announce that members should save meat for September when we have our wild game feed to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary. Pens were ordered for the club also. Brian ordered 300 of them; they should be here soon. A T-shirt design was discussed and will be approved at the February club meeting. The design will go on the back, and on the front we might put “Norfolk Archery Club 50th.” With the state tournament and meeting here in March, we will promote the club then. The NFAA will provide the state medals; non-NFAA members are considered guests and the club provides medals for them. The club is still growing: we have two new youth memberships and one family membership. Randy also said that the doctor he is seeing is an avid bowman. Mike said Menards has double-wide lockers for $179. Randy said Norfolk High pulled a bunch out; maybe someone could call to see if they have some we can get. It was decided that Mike will get 4 of the double-wide lockers. Someone suggested we get a Nebraska map and put push-pins in -- red for members, others for people who come to our tournaments. Randy and William are in charge. The meeting was adjourned.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB CLUB MEETING December 3, 2009 Norfolk Archery Club members met Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at 7 p.m. There were approximately 25 members present for the meeting. President Mike Noelle called the meeting to order and gave a report of the last board meeting, as follows: Treasurer’s report showed $2,895.71 in savings. $1,100 was spent on sound board, leaving $1,795.71 available. It was agreed to spend $200 on a display case for trophies and awards, and $300 on bulbs and ballast for lights, as well as a couple of space heaters to take off the chill during tournaments. Regina volunteered to head up a committee to plan for the club’s 50th anniversary; others are needed to help with the planning. Jay Putters volunteered to help. Election of officers was held. The following current officers were all retained: president, Mike Noelle; vice president, Mark Eggers; treasurer, Brian Lorenz; secretary, Regina Lorenz; indoor range director, Randy Latimer; outdoor range director, Marv Gibson, and proshop manager, Kevin Endorf. For the office of concessions, the current officer is Julie Eggers; Diana Hansen agreed to be nominated for the office, and was elected to take over for Julie. There will be a FITA shoot this weekend (Dec. 5-6). The 4-H kids will shoot at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Other youth may shoot at that time, and are to follow 4-H rules and regulations. The regular shoot will be 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. and 12 noon on Sunday. We were to discontinue the 4 p.m. line on Saturdays, but it was inadvertently left in the file that was mailed to the newspapers and radio stations. Help will be needed to run the lines on Saturday and Sunday. New Business New Year’s Eve is on a Thursday night, so members discussed having a New Year’s Eve party here. Some were in favor, some weren’t, so whoever wants to come can. Everyone is to bring snacks. Randy said if we would have 20 people interested in being certified as a 4-H instructor in archery, rifle, etc., we could have a class here, probably in the spring. Anyone interested should let Randy know. Marv asked when this league ends and the next one starts. This league will end Dec. 17, and the next one begins Jan. 7. Marv said the state newsletter will go out soon and wondered if emails are being sent out; Mark said yes, they are; Brian gave Mark some new email addresses. Marv said they are going to start emailing the state newsletters in the future. Randy moved and Marv seconded to adjourn.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Board of Directors Meeting November 5, 2009 Treasurer’s report shows $2,895.71 in checking; $188.79 cash on hand. The Spyderweb targets are paid for; $1,100 to be paid for soundboard. Randy says regarding display cases, it is $120 for a barrister case which has 3-4 shelves. Mike said to check the Hallmark store downtown -- they’re closing. Randy said Jen (his daughter) said they have some but there are no locks on them; locks would have to be put on. The board agreed to have Randy get a 4-shelf unit. He’ll check Menards and Target. Mark moved, Regina seconded; approved. Marv brought up the subject of the fluorescent lights. The company will still make bulbs but will quit making the magnetic ballast. We can buy a lot ahead of time. Mark said he heard the same. Marv moved we buy ballast and bulbs, about 2 years worth -- about 2 boxes of ballasts (6 per box) for $60-70 per box and bulbs, $50 for a box of 15. Mark seconded the motion. Approved. Randy will buy it. Jay Putters said he has an old flatware display case he will donate to the club, to put up in the corner to put pictures in, such as trail cam pictures. Ken Redler donated a Christmas tree for our 3-Ds. Randy asked if there are any mechanics in the club who could work on plans for pop-up targets. Brian Lorenz and Kevin Endorf offered to look into it. The 2010 proposed shoot schedule includes: Jan. 23-24 -- 300 round Feb. 13-14 -- indoor 3-D March 6-7 -- 300 round state shoot Dec. 11-12 -- FITA May 9 -- FHA June 12-13 -- State High School and state 4-H 3D and 900 Aug. 7-8 -- 3-D, with state unmarked 3-D on the 8th Sep. 11-12 -- Whitetails 3-D The schedule will get hashed out next weekend (Nov. 14-15) at the Presidents/Secretaries meeting at Woods and Waters. Randy, Mike and Marv are going down. Start times for shoots were discussed: indoor, 7 p.m. on Saturday (no early line) and 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sunday; indoor 3-D, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Also discussed setting prices for young adult, youth and cubs at $6 to bring in more people. There were complaints that our prices were high on 3-Ds ($15) but we have 50 targets where others only have 40; others are going to $15 too. It was discussed changing to $28 for families at target shoots, which would be a discount. The final decision was to change prices as follows: NAC Target shoots — $6 for all kids (cubs, youth, young adults); $12 adults; $27 for family NAC 3-D shoots — $8 for kids; $15 adults; $35 for family 4-H Target — $6 each with $15 max per family 4-H 3-D — $8 each with $20 max per family Mark said there is talk about high schools having school archery clubs, shooting tournaments during the summer; having mail-in or postal tournaments where scores are mailed in. Mike informed members about Y classes for 2010: Saturdays in February; Wednesdays during the summer; back to Saturdays in the fall. We discussed opening up the 4-H 3-D tournaments so club members can shoot free on Sunday but 4-H parents would have to pay. Space heaters were discussed. Marv said the space heaters at Walmart that cost $20 are just as good as the $120 wood cabinet heaters, and it’s crazy to spend a lot of money on them. We could buy a couple just for tournaments and lock them up the rest of the time. With the club’s 50th anniversary being this year, we will set up a committee to get it organized, with Regina as chairman of the committee. It will be brought up at the December meeting. Some things suggested were having a float for the July 4 and/or Lyon’s Club parades. Brian asked about creating a classified page on the club’s web site -- free for members, which everyone agreed was a good idea. Mike and William moved and seconded to adjourn.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB CLUB MEETING October 1, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 7 p.m., before league shooting. It was noted that, at the last board meeting, $700 was set aside for soundboard for outdoor targets. We haven’t heard anything yet from Matt; will call him after the meeting. The treasurer’s report showed cash on hand of $188.79, $3,894.06 in checking. Concessions report showed a balance of $91.27. In the last couple of months, chips, candy and cash has been taken from concessions. We need to keep our eyes open and if it continues, we’ll have to lock things up, put in a pop machine, etc. Marv said someone tried to break through the outside door and threw some of the concrete blocks at the door. The blocks need to be kept inside. Cardboard was replaced here at the indoor range and the old taken out. The new Spyder Webs are in. We need to toss out the old cardboard more often. It can be thrown in the Greenfiber container here. It was asked if we want to get two more Spyder Webs for targets 5-6-7-8, and leave 1-4 for behind the broadhead targets. Someone asked if there are any outstanding debts. Brian said nothing until the first of the year when we have to pay insurance. We need new light fixtures too, soon. These are becoming obsolete and the ballasts are getting pricier. Paul Loberg said NPPD paid him $75 per fixture to change out his light fixtures. Will the electric company do that here? Brian said we don’t pay the electricity bill here though. Someone should talk to the landlord and NPPD. Another question is if a licensesd electrician needs to do it. The issue of lights was tabled, and research will be done on them. Jay Putter will check into it. Regarding Spyder Webs, Mark moved we buy two more; seconded by Jay Putters. Randy said regarding soundboard, the hangup is that Omaha wants theirs cut. Matt said if it’s a big problem they’ll cancel their order. Otherwise they’re looking at a November delivery. A schedule for tournaments is needed; Mike has tentative dates printed and they were handed out. NAC tournaments were written in for Jan. 9-10 (300); Feb. 13-14 (indoor 3-D); March 6-7 (300, could be state shoot) May 8-9 (FHA, could be state); Aug. 14-15 (3-D, could be unmarked state); Sep. 11-12 (Whitetails); Dec. 11-12 (state FITA). Other dates written in were: March 13, fun shoot; April 10-11, banquet; April 22, start outdoor FHA league; July 1, change to 3-D league; Oct. 7, start indoor league. It was decided to try for the March 300 state shoot and Aug. 14-15 3-D state unmarked, with a possibility of doing some of the others if no one else will. Randy, Mike and Marv might all be going to the meeting to set the dates. Secretary Regina announced that she had found information in a 1971 Norfolk paper (during which the town celebrated archery week in Norfolk) that suggests that the club started in 1959 and was chartered in March 1961, which means the club may already be in its 50th year of existence. She will try and find out more information. The meeting was adjourned.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Board of Directors Meeting September 3, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club Board of Directors met Thursday, Sep. 3, 2009, after league. Members were informed that cash and candy in the concessions area, as well as cash from the target cups, are being taken from the indoor range. We might have to do something different with concessions, maybe get a pop machine (Mike has one) and maybe a candy machine; keep only a small amount of cash in the cash box and put the rest in the safe each week. Next Thursday and Friday (Sep. 10-11), targets will be set up for that weekend’s tournament; volunteers can come and help set up. Mike will sent out an email. Saturday is also the coon shoot and potluck. We’ll use the targets that are already at the outdoor range. Someone asked how many are going to be replaced by soundboard? Four big ones, at least. It has to be bought in bunks; a lot of discussion was held on how many bunks we want -- 1 or 2. One bunk would cost about $525. According to Brian, there is $2,460.42 in checking and most of the dues are paid. (Julie said there is $130-140 in concessions). Marv moved and Randy seconded a motion to get 2 bunks. Motion approved. Mark said Kevin Polt sent him an email asking if we would want to donate old bag targets to the archery range at Willow Creek (which is in bad shape). Since they charge to get in just to shoot at the range, it was decided not to donate them. Indoor range cleanup will be Saturday, Sep. 16. Randy said it needs a lot of cleaning. Mike said he will be taking his 4-H kids down on Saturday to switch out the targets and put in the new Spyder Webs. The Missouri River Outdoor Expo at Ponca State Park is Sep. 19-20. Randy encouraged members to go -- everything is free. Information is available on the Game and Parks web site. Mike said starting Saturday, Sep. 26, he will have another 8-week class at the &, from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 1 is the first day of indoor league. We will be doing a 450 round, scoring at 7:30 p.m. That night will also be a club meeting. We need to figure out next year’s tournament schedule by Nov. 1. Mike said he’d work on it this weekend. He asked which state tournaments we want. It was suggested we try for all of them. Randy noted that Cornhusker State Games will be in June next year. Mike said there is pine wilt out by target 10; we need to talk to the airport about cutting them out. Randy said he heard that you can kill poison ivy with dish soap and water. Mike asked about setting up a table at the Whitetails Banquet on Sep. 18; nothing was settled about this. Randy said he’s looking for an AV cart for the VCR. It was discussed a long time ago; they cost a lot for a new one. [He found one some time after this meeting and bought it.]
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Club Meeting August 6, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, after outdoor league. League standings were posted. Treasurer’s report showed a checking balance of $1,883.40 and cash on hand of $188.79. All bills have been paid; membership bills were sent out in June and are being sent out in August. Concessions showed a balance of $211.40; the indoor range has been restocked. Recent Tournament Results State Marked 3D: Mike Noelle, 4th in AMFS Ken Schneider, 1st in SrAMBHFS Spencer Endorf, 1st in YMFS Jake Noelle, 2nd in YMFS State Target: Kevin Endorf, 3rd in AMBHFS Marv Gibson, 1st in SMTrad Ken Schneider, 1st in SrMBHFS Kacey Eggers, 1st in YAFFS Spencer Endorf, 1st in YAMFS Brett Eggers, 2nd in YAMFS Michael Noelle, 9th in AMFS Spencer had the highest score in the state target tournament. He also had the highest score and Cornhusker State Games, and Kacey had the second highest score. It was noted that the state 3-D will be in Yankton again in 2010 and will be big -- the only reason it was small this year was because IBO and world was the same weekend. Upcoming tournaments include our club shoot and NFAA unmarked 3D shoot Aug. 8 and 9, and the Whitetails Classic Sep. 12-13. Mark, Brett and Jake will start getting ready for the weekend tournament at noon on Friday; they’ll need help around 6:30 p.m for any volunteers who want to come. Also, there will be a bow-ed class Aug. 14-15, Friday 6-9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For Class A members, the EZ press is in the pro shop. There are instructions there, but if anyone is not sure how to use it, they should contact Mike. Also, Randy purchased indoor targets for the coming indoor league. Indoor range cleaning is ongoing -- it has gotten bad during the summer. Outdoor range: Marv said he has plans for the stand. Not all the dimensions are right, but just about, and could get it done by Whitetails. He will make a detailed bill of materials. The platform on #9, steps on #8 and stairway on #10 need maintenance. Someone asked if the targets will make it to the end of the season. Marv said yes; he talked to Matt and will get enough material for 8 targets. Regarding a bug sprayer, they’re down to $135; or were we going to rent one? Nothing was decided. The last day of outdoor league is Sep. 3. The coon shoot and potluck is on Saturday, Sep. 12, the weekend of Whitetails.
Jakes Days is Aug. 29 near Battle Creek. Mike is taking bows and some targets and might need help teaching archery. He also said there are 2 weeks of archery with the Y kids left. Marv said the lady who owns the China Gate restaurant wants her daughter to join 4-H as a result of the Y class. Brian said the range finder, which was damaged down at the indoor range some time ago by a water leak, is shot and he can’t get it fixed. We should just replace it, because it will cost more to send it in to be fixed. Ken Schneider moved and Mike Noelle seconded a motion to get a new one. Motion approved. Mark said he would see what he can find -- he asked, if he finds one in Yankton, should he get it? He was told he should. The Whitetails Banquet is Sep. 11. Mike asked if the club wants to give away memberships again. It was agreed we would -- it’s been good for the club. We’ll give a family membership and a couple of single memberships. William moved and Ken seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion approved.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Board of Directors Meeting July 2, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club Board of Directors met Thursday, July 2, 2009, after outdoor league. Mark Eggers reported that, regarding the new shirts, the business they were ordered from contacted the manufacturer about the shirts snagging, and they will do something about it (maybe give some of the money back?) Mark still has 12-15 shirts and has sent emails to people to come pick them up. They will be put in the pro shop until they are picked up; members have been billed for them. The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $203.79 cash on hand and $1,708.59 in checking after paying $1,900 on the mower and paying for the shirts. Mark asked if Brian received anything from Wild Turkey Federation, but Brian had not yet picked up the mail for the week. Randy L. said someone told him they had come out to mow but the mower was locked up. It was decided that there will be two people (Brett and Spencer), maybe a couple more, who will mow, so only a couple of them have access. Kevin Endorf said he has a key and can send out emails for volunteers to contact him. Mike N. said Matt is getting Ohamo (Archery Club of Omaha) and Game and Parks together to get a load of soundboard and we need to get some and get it up here; we need enough for four targets to start. The Morrell bags, some that have been around for a while, are shooting through. We also need to get the 3-D targets pulled and put one each around the FHA range. Mark asked if we can wait until after next weekend because he has a shoot. Regarding mosquitoes and a way to handle them -- Mark said John Hay told him there is a mix you can use on them; he needs to email him and find out what it is. Randy said Bomgaars has a small sprayer; it will last about 8-10 hours. There is also a more expensive one ($200) that will last longer. Randy asked about the city doing it. Marv said he had emailed them and found that it takes 3 weeks to do the city so they may not have time. Randy said Pierce has a plane to do their town (Dale‘s?). He asked what about Dale’s just dumping that they have left. Someone also mentioned renting something from United Rental. It was decided to look at renting something. Julie was asked about concessions -- Mike said the Y kids are there on Wednesdays. Randy said next Wednesday is Pierce County 4-H state archery shoot, but it shouldn’t be a problem; there are only three Y kids. Mark said next Saturday is the county fair shoot and after that his kids are done. Randy said after the Pierce County fair shoot, his are done too. Regarding income from the last Y class -- Mike and Randy did the work. Brian said they deserve something. Mark proposed a six-month dues free for each, and that was agreed on. Brian said the new bow press is here, the EZ Press. He’ll drop it off at the indoor range, but it needs to be mounted. Randy said we need to show people how to use it. This one is pretty basic, however, so it should be easy enough. Randy said we need to paint the indoor range floor, but maybe wait until August. There was a mud puddle down by the butts that came up out of the hole down there. Also, the screens on the Spyder butts need replacing. It was noted that money will be coming in from membership dues, and the August and September tournaments. The 4-H Nations were discussed; information on them was emailed. Mike said he was impressed with the way the Nebraska kids acted -- there were a lot of comments made down there about it. They sat together, cheered for each other, helped each other. It was really impressive. Club members thanked Mark for coaching. Nebraska came in third overall in team competition. Randy said the men’s bathroom floor tile is broken up. We should retile or paint. Brian said if it’s not too bad underneath, we should just paint it. There will be a bow ed course in August, maybe the 14th and 15th. Randy will schedule it. Ken Redler is going to do one too, don’t know when. Mike, Mark and Randy will do the bow ed class and will ask the 4-H kids who are at that age; they’ll send out an email. Randy said he has about 50 plastic, 4-ft. targets we can use here.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Club Meeting February 5, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, before league. Minutes for the December 2008 and January 2009 meetings were posted at the range and online. Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $276.06 cash on hand and $6,210.44 in checking. Concessions report showed a balance of $265.59. Julie E. said the price of candy has gone up to 75 cents because we were losing money on it. The league report showed, after 4 weeks, Paige Kramer in first place; Richard Jakobowski, second; William L. and Ken S. tied for third, and Dale L. and Terry W. tied for fourth. In the tournament report, Mark E. said Paige Kramer “cleaned house” in Mason City, Ia. He said he got a Tournament Archer subscription for the club, and Paige is in it. Others from the club also did well at the tournament. Several club members shot tournaments at Fremont and at Columbus. At the January board meeting, dates were set for the fun shoot, etc. — all were listed on the agenda and were announced, as follows: Fun shoot -- March 28, 6 p.m. pizza; 7 p.m. shoot End of indoor -- April 9 Club banquet -- April 18, 7 p.m., here Cleanup days -- April 16 and 23 Start outdoor -- April 30 The FHA tournament is May 17 (with 4-H shoot the Saturday before), so the range will have to be ready for that also. Mike asked Marv if a date needed to be set for gluing targets for outdoor; he said they should be okay to get started. Brian received a request from the Nebraska Bowhunters for a donation for their auction held during their March 6-7 banquet. We have previously given T-shirts, so it was decided at the January board meeting to donate 2 T-shirts and 2 caps. Brian noted that he received Nebraska Bowhunters raffle tickets for hunting trips. You have to call in or go online to get tickets for the banquet. Randy said he sent in for a grant from the Wild Turkey Federation (WTF) through 4-H for $1,000 to get 60’ of arrow curtain and stands for indoor and outdoor. He submitted the grant request from the NAC and the three 4-H clubs (Antelope, Madison and Pierce counties). It went fine until a 4-H board member commented that the grant needs to go to new clubs. So Randy will try again later. There is a 3-D tournament on Feb. 14-15 with setup on Friday, Feb. 13. We have 11 kids shooting in the YMCA leagues on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon There will be a 300 on March 7; we need to rotate cardboard on targets 9-12. It was also noted that youth bows and 6-month memberships were donated to the NWTF banquet. Mike N. asked if the club should buy 2 more Spyder targets for this year. Paul Loberg said he hasn’t been able to contact them but last year they were $599 plus $12/sq. ft. for covers. Marv commented that the rubber mats helped on the other targets and need to be put back up. A motion was made and seconded to buy two more Spyderweb targets and material for faces on others. We’re okay on 3-D targets so we won’t need to buy them this year. The cost is about $1,600 (we have $6,200+ in our account plus money from the YMCA classes). Motion approved with Marv voting against. In talking about membership, Brian said there are about 70 members at this point; however, some are still paying dues and don’t come. Mike suggested numbering keys and issuing them so we know who has them. Marv said maybe we should change the lock to the indoor range again and issue new keys that are numbered. We could do it to be ready at the banquet (April 18). Mark will stop and talk to Voigts, who made the new keys last time. Kevin Endorf said we should also do new keys for the pro shop at the same time. Marv moved and Ed B. seconded to do the keys. Motion approved. Mike commented that he had a bunch of keys made last month and they’re all gone already. Randy asked about doing another bow ed class. There is no Friday p.m./Saturday a.m. open through March. They could maybe do a Tuesday/Friday/Saturday p.m. or Friday/Sunday. They’ll figure it out. Ed Brogie asked about doing a members web page; Brian said some members may not want that on a public web page. Members were reminded to get their info in to Brian for the membership notebook we are putting together. The meeting was adjourned.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Board of Directors Meeting January 8, 2009 The Norfolk Archery Club Board of Directors met Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, after league. Three new members were approved -- David Stolp, Jason Nelson and Bob Reed (the latter not yet paid). Dates for the fun shoot, banquet, end of indoor and beginning of outdoor league were set as follows: Fun Shoot — March 28 End of Indoor — April 9 Club Banquet — April 18 Cleanup days — April 16 and 23 Start Outdoor — April 30 The FHA tournament is May 17, so the range will have to be ready for that also. Brian gave a report on 3-D trophies. The ones we were getting were $8.50 each. Those from Crown Trophy are $6.95. He found an online company that has assorted nature pictures on them for $4.25 each. Regina moved and Julie seconded to order the plaques with the nature pictures from the online company. We also need to order more participation medals for kids. Randy asked if we should be allowing people to shoot practice on the Spyderweb targets. It was decided not to get too particular — people may use them, but it won’t be encouraged. It is not too expensive to get replacement fronts; we will ask Paul Loberg to get quotes on fronts. Randy said he sent in for a grant from Wild Turkey Federation through 4-H for $1,000 to get 60’ of arrow curtain and stands for indoor and outdoor. He submitted the grant request from the NAC and the three 4-H clubs (Antelope, Madison and Pierce counties). Brian received a request from the Nebraska Bowhunters for a donation for their auction held during their March 6-7 banquet. We have previously given T-shirts, so it was decided to donate 2 T-shirts and 2 caps. Brian said he has a fairly current list of members (not counting the three new ones) William Latimer said his needs a correction -- there is an underscore in it. The number of members in the club is about 50-55 according to the list, but some are families, so the total number would be higher. Brian said we’re pretty full with the league now; we may need to move the kids for the fun shoot if everyone comes. Randy said Ken Redler had kidney surgery recently and won’t be able to shoot anymore. Kevin Endorf noted that he and Randy have been taking the trash out, but that others need to do it also. Brian said we need to get a flashlight so people can see their way through the room to where the dumpster is. Mike N. said we also need a first aid kit down here. Marv moved, Regina seconded to adjourn.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB Club Meeting October 2, 2008 Members of the Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, before league. The August club meeting minutes were posted on the web site. Randy L. moved, and Jay Putters seconded to approve the minutes as posted. Motion approved. The treasurer’s report showed $200.03 cash on hand and $5,186.92 in checking. Julie E. reported $250.41 in concessions. In the league report, Brian said this is the first night of league; there is a trophy fee of $4 for the current league which is a 450 or Vegas round, and $4 for the league starting in January, the 300 round. Someone brought up having a 360 round rather than a Vegas round. Brian said, we could do that, but this also happened last year -- he already has scorecards made up for the Vegas round and some makeup scores already handed in. Kevin Olson moved that we stick with the Vegas round, and that we start scoring at 7:30 with no warm-up to speed things up. Anyone who wants a warm-up can come in earlier and practice. Marv second; motion approved. Mark thanked everyone who helped with the shoots and the field course this summer; everyone who helped with the indoor butts. Six or seven people came in on a Saturday, and Jerry Kramer did a bunch of work ahead of time. Targets 14-16 are the new Spyderweb targets. Brian talked about something new he wants to do: have a membership notebook. Each family provides information — pictures, interests, etc. — to keep here for new members and for current members to see who the new members are. Everyone thinks it is a good idea. Brian will make up a form. Marv suggested also having a member list, which Brian has already started on. We also talked about getting pictures of the officers on the web site. There were 72 people in the last bow hunter education class. A 32” flat screen TV was purchased with funds from Whitetails Unlimited. Since two TVs have disappeared from here, the flat screen is at home until a cabinet with a lock can be built. Since the last TV was stolen from there, new keys will probably also be made for the pro shop, and probably also for upstairs. Mike reported on a grant he submitted to Walmart; they will go through it this next quarter. Randy is also working on a grant; he needs a legal description of the ranges and may need help writing the grant. The club is planning on getting new T-shirts/polo shirts. Mark recommended setting up a committee. Marv said he liked the ones Karen got, and it is still set up at the business in Neligh; they can do more of them. Kacey and Megan Eggers volunteered to work on it. Ed Brogie said he has a friend at Stadium Sports he can talk to, and William Latimer said he will check with Nebraska Sports. Ed told the club that there were 10 kids in a recent archery safety class and they want to do a second class; he has also been asked to do other demonstrations. Marv G. said every time he drives past the outdoor archery range he remembers he’s supposed to do drawings for the stand and the deck for the clubhouse; he is still working on it, and if anyone else has ideas, they should let him know. Also, he said when they closed down Dale Electronics a friend of his bought 10 folding chairs at the auction and he might be able to get 5-8 of the chairs cheap, if the club wants him to ask. He was told to go ahead. Ed asked if we were going to get any more of the Spyderweb targets, and was told he will see how this works and maybe get two more next spring. Mike N. said part of the grant he’s working on is to get more target butts. Randy L. advised members not to use nails on the Spyderwebs -- use the plastic things; especially don’t use broad heads or gold tips. The 2009 shoot schedule has been put together according to last year’s schedule but the August tournament was moved back a week because of Labor Day. We need to decide on whether we’re going to have a FITA or 300 tournament next December; also will we do the state 300 in March. When we have 3-Ds, the 4-H tournaments will be held on the Saturday morning and half of the fees will be turned in to the archery club. Randy moved we turn in the dates for the schedule corresponding to last year’s, except for the August shoot as noted; Marv seconded. Motion approved. Ken Schneider noted that the car show is being moved to Divots next year. The December club elections were brought up and members were encouraged to consider serving. Mike Noelle said he was approached about teaching archery at the YMCA; they will pay for it. It would be youth archery, in January, February and March. He said he’ll do it if he can get some help. They will have two weeks of instruction and then run an eight-week league. They may have up to 32 kids. Randy commented that there are over 100 kids in 4-H with Pierce, Madison and Antelope counties, and they shoot at night. Mike said the YMCA would do this on Saturday mornings. A couple people volunteered to help. Ken Schneider said if we keep the old cardboard from the targets separated, he can take it to work to recycle. Randy will put up signs to keep things separated. Randy moved, Regina seconded to adjourn. Motion approved.

NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB August 7, 2008 Members of the Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, after league. Present were Eggers, Endorfs, Latimers, Lorenzes, Mike Noelle, Ed Brogie (left before the meeting started), Marv Gibson and Richard Jakubowski. We received a thank you note from Pierce County 4-H for a donation to their silent auction: two 6-month memberships to the club. Two of Randy Latimer’s 4-H club members won the auctions. Mark Eggers called the meeting to order. William L. moved and Randy L. seconded to approve the June minutes. Motion approved. Treasurer’s report showed a checkbook balance of $3,292.69 and cash on hand of $169.79, which Brian said was inaccurate because he needs to add some 3-D money that Mark has. Mark moved and William seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion approved. Concessions report showed $118.29 with food still left from the barbecue to be used for the coming weekend tournament. In old business, Marv said that after 12 years’ effort, he received the silver bowl -- and a belt buckle -- at nationals in Yankton. Fifteen or more Norfolk Archery Club members shot at nationals. Marv noted that David Hughes, one of the bare bow people who has won championship before and who got it again this year, has cancer. Also, the president of the bare bow fraternity has lung cancer. Some of the founding members of the bare bow fraternity received special awards. William said there was a decent group of NAC members at Cornhusker State Games. Randy won in his division and William got second after John Hay (former member). There is cardboard at the indoor range; we need to figure out when to cut it. Mike suggested we just cut it and put it into the butts. Randy said maybe we should ask Jerry Kramer when he’ll get more and cut it right away. It was noted that we have enough right now. Mike said 4-H kids could haul out the old cardboard. Randy said he will figure out a day to cut it and let everyone know; he’ll have it put on the web site. Mark asked if he could get a copy of the list of members. Brian said he has had an idea of putting together a membership notebook with a page for each member and their family with a picture, the date they joined, etc., to keep at the range. Mike asked if we could put something on the web site with member applications, and Brian said we could. Our 3-D tournament and the state 3-D that we are hosting will be this weekend (Aug. 9-10). It will be set up as a marked 3-D, following NFAA rules. There is a $15 fee for shooting state tournaments, and $15 fee for ours, also $5 for fun and $15 for noncompetitive; people can shoot either one or both but would have to pay for both if they want to shoot them both. Set-up will be on Friday night starting at 6 p.m. or as soon as people can come. Ken Redler posted that bow ed will be at the indoor range on Friday, Aug. 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 16, from 8 a.m. until done, for anyone who is interested. Friday, Sep. 26, is the Whitetails banquet. We had a kids’ bow range set up last year -- do we want to do it again this year? Mark said he probably can’t. Marv volunteered and William said maybe he could. Mike and Randy said maybe they could also. Mark said Whitetails Unlimited will buy a TV, DVD and VCR player and cart for us for bow ed; it just got approved. He’ll get it down there soon. Mike Noelle said he talked to Andy Fisher of Walmart; Walmart has grants that Mike will submit a bid for -- $1,000 which we can use for Saunders straw mats (?) Spiderweb(?) You can only apply once a year for these grants. Randy asked if anyone had used American (?) mats? They cost about $200-300. Mark said someone told him they hold up pretty well. Mike said we have spent $1,400 on targets at the indoor range which the 4-H kids use a lot; we should see if the Turkey Federation will pay some of the $1,400. Mark suggested getting new T-shirts again; a guy in Yankton will send quotes. William said to get him the information and he’ll see what they can do (he now works at Nebraska Sports). The guy in Elgin still has the screen from the last shirts we got; it can be put on any shirt we want. We’ll put together something for the next club meeting. Marv noted that we used to have a traveling league between us and O’Neill. Regina moved and Randy seconded to adjourn. Motion approved.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB CLUB MEETING June 5, 2008 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, June 5, 2008, after league at the outdoor range. Present were Eggers, Randy and William Latimer, Endorfs, Mike Noelle, Ken Schneider, Brian McDonald, Curt Schavee, Marv Gibson, Paul Hansen, Dale Lorenz and Kevin Olson. William L. moved, Ken S. seconded to approve the minutes of the last meeting as posted. Motion approved. Concession report showed a balance of $287.93. A new sump pump was found at the indoor range, but it does not work. All of the range except one area was cleaned up, and all pumps are working. We may consider taking out an area of the south wall, and may consider buying a dehumidifier. Brian McDonald has one that he is not using. Randy moved and Marv seconded that the club buy a dehumidifier. Motion approved. Randy will buy it. Brian M. will also bring one down to the range. Mike did some work on the mowers. The Snapper needs a new battery. In the fall, we need to bring the batteries to the indoor range so they don’t freeze. Mark Eggers will pick up some trimmer line. Marv suggested we make a deck outside the door of the clubhouse, but not have it attached. He will also make a stand. Members believe we should make the deck first. Marv and Mike will work on the signs. Mike is drawing up plans for lockers. Randy got the bow storage done. The June 8 Field-Hunter-Animal tournament registration is at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. A marker on No. 10 and a tie on No. 9 need to be fixed. Marv will work on targets and Mike will fix the range. Mike will also take care of concessions, and will bring chips. There will be a water cooler out on the range. There aren’t any awards for this tournament. The club will get some FHA awards and mail them out. It was also suggested to get 3 gift certificates for door prizes and hand them out. Mike will hand out 3-D awards at the tournament. (The latter was not done as results were not given to Brian L. in time) The car show on the airport grounds will be held Aug. 1. Archery club members cannot get into the range the week before or after, July 28 through Aug. 8. Brian needs to post this on the web site so people know. The airport authorities want to make sure no one is out there during hunting season and make sure the targets are secure and not blowing around. Outdoor league ends Sep. 4. The coon shoot and outdoor league awards banquet/family picnic is Sep. 13. We need to figure out if our Aug. 9-10 3-D is the state marked 3-D. Kevin Olson suggested we print sheets stating the yardage for each target for those shooting the state marked 3-D, with others to shoot the targets without the sheets so that it is an unmarked 3-D for them. Dave S. had a trailer and wants to know if the club wants to buy it. Marv doesn’t think we need a bigger trailer. William said Office Max has pallets we could use to sit bag targets on. Randy made a motion, seconded by William, not to buy the trailer. Motion approved. Mike N. is still working on the Wal-Mart grant, and is looking into another grant. Randy needs more techn;ical info about the indoor and outdoor range. Marv believes it was just an agreement that we take care of the range and pay $150 per month for the indoor range. Mark wondered if the club would want to hold the state 4-H tournament. The state would decide if it will be held here if we are interested. Marv moved and Mike seconded to put in a bid to host the state 4-H archery tournament. Kevin O. suggested we buy Saunders mats so the club could host the state 900 or a 900 tournament if it wanted to. Randy said it would cost extra to buy the stands. It was suggested we could make our own or use wood. Hartington will host a youth/adult shoot. Youth is anyone under 18. The shoot will be held either Aug. 24 or 27. Marv suggested making a motion to add 2 points per half for those shooting league on Thursday night. Others thought we should check with Brian so it doesn’t get messed up. It was suggested somehow having a reward that would benefit the archers who shoot on Thursday night. Dale moved and William seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion approved. — Submitted by Kacey Eggers
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MAY 1, 2008 The Norfolk Archery Club Board of Directors met Thursday, May, 1, 2008. Minutes were posted at the outdoor range and on the club’s web site. The treasurer’s report showed $3,331.82 in checking and $152.79 cash on hand. Marv G. gave Brian some bills adding up to about $22-23. Things that need to be done include: -- clean up indoors (people aren’t emptying the garbage when it’s full) -- work on sump pump -- bring deer targets to outdoor range before the 3-D -- make target station signs, like the laminated signs on the target boxes? Brian suggested Plexiglas. Mike Noelle suggested using clear coat. Marv will do the laminated ones to start with -- Marv will bring up the mowing schedule next month Suggestions for projects for the lumber we have: -- make shooting platform (Marv will draw something up) -- Marv also suggested another railing for the other platform and a deck for the clubhouse
Marv went over the posted work schedule and things that need to be done Randy suggested putting American round east of the power poles. Brian said we can’t put anything permanent past there, according to the lease. Marv said we could move the brush pile and move the practice range. He’ll draw something up. Mike N. is drawing up plans for lockers on his computer. Randy and William have materials for stairs; just need to do it. In the future, we need to set up the banquet and fun shoot sooner so they’re not so close together. Brian asked about billing for the banquet. We’ll get some of the money back from selling the leftover meat at the next 3-D. The 3-D is May 17-18. We will set u on the 16th. The Antelope County 4-H shoot will be here; they can also shoot Sunday but will have to pay for it. Work detail: Saturday morning, May 10, 8 a.m. Also, work detail after the 3-D and before the FHA on June 8 -- will do it May 24. We will need volunteers for the FHA on June 8; will ask for volunteers at the June 5 meeting. Randy asked if anyone wanted to help with the state 4-H. Sep. 13 will be the coon shoot and we can use the targets from the Whitetails shoot. We will end outdoor league Sep. 4 so awards can be handed out at the coon shoot. A $4 trophy fee was set for outdoor league. Jerry Kramer can get card board this summer. Discussed cutting it. Recycling center will take old cardboard.
NORFOLK ARCHERY CLUB CLUB MEETING April 3, 2008 The Norfolk Archery Club met Thursday, April 3, 2008, before league. Roll call was taken with 21+ members in attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were posted. Randy moved and Kevin Endorf seconded to approve the minutes. Motion passed. Treasurer’s report showed $6,700 in checking, $152.79 cash on hand, with a bill paid to Mike Noelle. Concessions report showed a balance of $288.96. League report -- first place, Paul Loberg; second, Terry Wright; third, Ed Brogie; fourth, Mark Christiansen. Members were reminded to vote on Archer of the Year. Tonight (April 3) was the last night of indoor league. Tournament report -- At state, Marv Gibson took first, Spencer Endorf second and Brian Stuckwish third in their divisions. Nine shooters from the Norfolk Archery Club were in attendance. At Nationals in Louisville, Ky., Spencer took sixth and Kacey Eggers took third in their divisions. Traveling Trophy The annual trophy shoot (April 5) was discussed -- Mike Noelle gave prices for Pizza Hut pizza and asked for ideas for what to order. Suzie Smith had the trophy from last year and Mark will call her to make sure she brings it. Randy Latimer will not be here, but gave ideas for games and what is here to use. Eggers will get balloons. It will be BYOB on beer other than the 2 kinds in the pro shop. Marv asked where the old plates are from the traveling trophy; Randy has them as he is planning on making a plaque. Banquet Plans Randy asked about beer at the banquet (April 12). Someone mentioned getting a keg. Mark E. told about someone getting killed after drinking at an event. It was decided it would be BYOB but it won’t be supplied by the club. Stockeys will cater the banquet and Mark E., Kevin E. and Mike N. will supply roasters. Mike asked about how many to order for. According to how many had already signed up, it was decided to go with 100, since a lot of people show up that haven’t signed up. Mark C. asked about door prizes and said he had some signed prints to donate. Happy hour will be at 6 p.m. and we will eat at 7 p.m. Ed Brogie volunteered to do the invocation. Mike said Stockeys will supply plates and he is taking care of getting table covers. Members can bring appetizers and desserts. Mark E. said he would still like some hunting pictures for the slide show. Marv finally has the awards for last year’s state shoot -- they will be handed out at the awards banquet. State Meeting Marv gave an update on the state meeting; accounting and record keeping are poor to nonexistent. There was an email fight beforehand but everything came out well. They need to work on the constitution. He said right now there are only two divisions for seniors: fingers and release; he is going to ask for change. Spencer Endorf, who attended the meeting, was asked to comment; he said it was kinda funny to watch. Marv said he always asks people from other clubs to contribute to the newsletter and no one does; then everyone complains that there are only things in it about the Norfolk club. Someone suggested putting in each club name and after each one: “nothing submitted.” Other Business New storage lockers: Randy has materials for the storage on the stairs, just needs time to come in and do it. Mike Henery is working on the lockers. Outdoor range work will be done on April 10 and 17. Marv will post a to-do list, which people can initial when they get something finished, and a list of bags that need to be replaced. It was noted that there are enough animal targets to last until 2015! Marv also said that if the area behind the practice range were cleared out, there would be room for an American Round, and explained that. The airport is putting up another gate east of our parking lot to separate the range from the area for the car show. Outdoor league starts April 24 with the animal round. Randy L. said there will be a group of 4-H county educators at the range on Monday, April 14, to shoot in the afternoon. A mother of one of the Meadow Grove 4-H kids asked if something with archery could be done June 28-29 during Frontier Days there; they have a trail there. Randy suggested open shooting for kids and adults. They will provide food and drinks. Mark E. said when it gets closer to that date, maybe we could get some volunteers to participate. Paul Loberg has a source for “Spiderweb” indoor targets; they outlast any other targets he’s seen. Mark E. said he’s seen them and they’re good. He said some 48” Morrell targets have been ordered but are on backorder; do we want to cancel them and order the new ones? The cost is $450 each for Morrells and $600 for these others. Randy L. moved and Ken Schneider seconded that we cancel the Morrell order and order two Spiderwebs for a total of $1,200. Mark will call to cancel. Paul said he had a picture of the Spiderwebs if anyone wants to see them. Marv said a 6‘-8’ table has been donated to the club by Richard Jakubowski. Ken Redler commented on tree stands; he said someday it will be required to take tree stand safety courses, and told a story of tree stand accidents. Tree stand companies are covering themselves for liability. He said he is going to get certified to do the course, which is separate from bow hunter ed. Marv moved and Randy seconded to adjourn.
